Si les sciences ont généré des progrès indiscutables, elles suscitent aussi des inquiétudes. Auraient-elles trahi nos attentes? Seraient-elles responsables, en nous instituant «maîtres et possesseurs de la nature», du dérèglement climatique, de la pollution et de la destruction de la biosphère? L’accusation est trop simpliste, car la science n’est pas indépendante de son contexte socioéconomique et ses applications techniques sont d’abord inscrites dans des choix de société.
